In 2019, an elderly woman in the village donated her one-acre plot for school land and the villagers built an open-air bamboo shed for a primary school. We built a new 40′ x 30′ school for the 74 students in Shar Kone this year. Shar Kone can have intensely hot summer weather so the new school has a lower level for the fragile elderly and young to escape the heat.
Shar Kone
Shar Kone is a very poor village located in Myin Gyan Township in the Mandalay Division with difficult road access. The villagers depend on the farming of beans, corn, groundnut and some fishing. The population is 475 and all of the 105 households live in bamboo houses. The villagers have been asking for a primary school for many years.
