Nan Ohn

Nan Ohn is a village of 200 households located about 10 miles from Kalaw with a good sandy road for access. The 700 villagers  belong to the Danu tribe and make their livelihood by farming rice cabbage, garlic, beetroot, flowers, rap seed and potatoes. There are 186 students in the primary/middle grades from K-8.

The village currently has two school buildings, one of them in rough shape with a leaky roof and no ceiling. We built a new 80′ x 30′ school for the middle grades, 6-8, plus a new teachers’ cottage, and the students have been eager helpers. The villagers aspire to obtain a high school designation from the education ministry now that the new building is finished. Then students from four or five surrounding villages could also go to high school in Nan Ohn.
