Ma Dam

Funded by the Zoie Gardner Overseas Fund

Located about 200 km southeast of the city of Mandalay, Ma Dam village has a population of 1,580. The villagers make their living farming corn, beans and upland rice. Ma Dam is situated in a very rainy area a considerable distance from Mandalay so educational department officials rarely visit the village.  The villagers have asked the government for a new school building many times to no avail.

There is a 1.52 acre school site with several school buildings, only one of which is in acceptable condition. Two hundred and fifty-one students, including 121 girls and 130 boys,  are currently attending from K-9. The villagers asked for a new 80′ x 30′ building for the higher grades which we have provided this year.
