The village had three school buildings, two in bad shape with no ceilings and leaking roofs. The third, built by the government 11 years ago, was in decent shape. More than 100 of the students had to go to other towns for the high school grades which is very costly for the villagers. Now that we have finished the new 120′ x 30′ Leonard Mehdi school and a 30′ x 12′ teachers’ cottage, these students can attend high school in their own village plus it will attract students from nearby villages.

Thar Yar Gone village is located about 20 miles north of Kalaw. It is a large village with a population of 3,200 in 900 households. The villagers belong to the Pa Oh tribe and farm ginger, rapeseed, garlic, potatoes and other vegetables. There is good road access and the village has electricity. There are 414 students in grades KG-9 with 250 girls and 164 boys.
