La Mine Clinic

Located 12 miles southeast of Kalaw, La Mine village has 500 Taung Yoe and Danu tribe members. The villagers farm rice, garlic, potatoes, tomatoes, flowers and rap seed for cooking oil. There is one midwife living here who provides services for 22 surrounding villages.

Only 30′ x 20′ x 10′, the existing medical clinic was too small.  It was built by the villagers and divided into 3 rooms. Each year about 120 women give birth there and there is much illness (influenza and cold). The township doctor emphasized the need for a new clinic in La Mine, especially given the needs of the surrounding villages, so we built a new 30′ x 30′ clinic building.
