Maung is a Burmese contractor and project manager who has been working since the mid 1990s to improve conditions in Myanmar’s rural villages. Maung was born in a small rural village and eventually went to university in Meiktila. He then made his way to Mandalay where he met John Stevens, a Canadian who was interested in helping Maung assist village farmers with their irrigation problems.
After working for a couple of years building wells and installing water pumps, Maung and John built a school in Own Don village. Subsequently, John founded 100 Schools, a USA 501(c)3 non-profit, dedicated to building village schools. Although Maung continues to build some schools for 100 Schools, the vast majority of the schools that he builds are funded by Myanmar/Burma Schools Project Foundation (MBSPF). He currently has a crew of 35 working on our school projects. For further details on Maung’s life story, click here.
