Inn Khaung Ywa Daw

The village of Inn Khaung Daw is located 44 miles to the northeast of Kalaw. Most of the 1,200 villagers belong to the Danu tribe and they make their living farming tea, ginger and potatoes. There are 350 village students currently attending grades K-8 and 9 teachers.

The village has one newer school building for the lower grades (k-3) that is useable but the situation is dismal for grades 4-8. Those students have an old school building that is in poor and unsafe condition as white ants have eaten the structural wood and the ceiling and roof are in bad shape. Similarly, the current teacher housing is in very rough condition.

Given the number of students, MBSPF built a large new middle school, 120′ x 30′, in Inn Khaung Ywa Daw. We are also provided a new residence to house the teachers. The villagers were very willing to support the construction by providing bricks, sands, rocks and their volunteer labour.
