Ye Twin Kaung

Ye Twin Kaung village is located about 70 km to the northwest of Mandalay.  The village is reached by a long drive from Mandalay over the Irrawaddy River past the lovely hills of Sagaing and then travelling along a dusty road over 12 km from the main road. It is large, with about 853 households and 698 students overall from kindergarten to grade 11. The villagers farm sesame, beans and onions for their livelihood.

We first visited Ye Twin Kaung in December 2016 to find the village in great need of a new middle school building because of earthquake damage to the former structure. Accordingly, MBSPF built a large 120’ x 30’ school there in 2017.

We have subsequently learned that their 32-year-old primary school, formerly used for grades 1-4, has been condemned since 2019. Since then, the young students have been taught under trees. With 250 students currently in grades 1-4, there is a dire need for a new building.  The villagers requested that we build a new  80’ x 30’ primary school.
